ACTION ALERT: Let's shoot for 200 by Friday!!!

We can do it! We can get 200 co-sponsors in the House in the ADA Restoration Act of 2007 (H.R. 3195) by Friday if we pull out all the stops. Better yet, if we aim for 218, we’ll have a majority needed to pass the legislation in the House. We’re already up to 144. It’s time to call, fax, email, or show up to talk to your Representatives about co-sponsoring the Americans with Disabilities Act Restoration Act. Tell them it's time to restore the protections that Congress intended when it passed the ADA in 1990 but which the Courts have slowly stripped away in narrow interpretations of the law.

Your work last week resulted in the introduction of the ADA Restoration Act of 2007 as bipartisan bills in both the House and the Senate, with 144 original co-sponsors!! But we can't rest now! It's time to let Congress hear our loud and proud disability rights roar once again! We can get 200 by Friday!!!

In the wake of the 17th Anniversary of the ADA, let’s make this a week of disability history – the week that we secured 200 co-sponsors for disability legislation in just one week since its introduction!

WHEN: This week, before the August recess!!

WHO: U.S. House of Representatives - All those who have not already co-sponsored the ADA Restoration Act of 2007 (for a complete listing of those who have co-sponsored in the House, click here)

To identify your Representatives, go to: http://www.house.gov/ and enter your zip code into the top left corner, or click here to view Representatives by state.

WHAT: Call your Representative at 202-224-3121 and tell to co-sponsor the ADA Restoration Act of 2007. Tell them it’s time that the promise of the ADA be restored and be harmonized with other civil rights laws.

Model Script:

"Hi. My name is_______ and I live in ________. I need Representative______ to cosponsor the ADA Restoration Act of 2007. Seventeen years ago, the ADA was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, yet people with disabilities are still being treated unfairly. People with disabilities are in a no-win situation. Employers can say that I am "too disabled" to perform my job, but "not disabled enough" to be protected by the ADA. This is wrong! Restore the ADA and restore my rights Please cosponsor HR _____."
