Tell SHRM It Can Have Its Membership Back

***** ACTION ALERT *******

The Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) is speaking out of both sides of their mouth about the rights of people with disabilities.

SHRM claims to be an expert on disability rights and has even worked with Department of Labor on ADA issues in the past. Yet, SHRM is deliberately misrepresenting ADA Restoration using their reputation as experts in the field of human resources to attempt to validate their claims. In fact, they were lobbying against ADA Restoration on Capitol Hill just last week!

SHRM is urging its members to contact Congress to oppose ADA Restoration. We’re urging disability advocates to contact SHRM and tell them how disappointed you are in their opposition of fair employment of people with disabilities.

The disability community is working with real people with disabilities who have experienced real discrimination in the workplace to support ADA restoration. The business lobby is working with absurd hypothetical situations to oppose this crucially-needed legislation.

TAKE ACTION!

1) Contact your local SHRM chapter and state council.

Tell them how disappointed you are in their opposition of a bill that seeks to ensure the civil rights protections of all people with disabilities in the workplace.

Find your local SHRM
chapter on the SHRM website (their drop-down menu of states is at the top of the page).

Find your SHRM
state council.

2) If your own employer is a member of SHRM, urge that they withdraw their membership and withhold participation in SHRM’s events and trainings.

Please email us if your employer has done so, so that we can keep a running list of the organizations that have withdrawn their membership in response to SHRM's opposition of ADA Restoration (aapdanne@earthlink.net).

The Epilepsy Foundation sent their letter on Thursday, withdrawing its membership. Others disability groups plan to do the same.
Read the Epilepsy Foundation’s letter to SHRM.
